Some love stories don’t arrive all at once. They unfold quietly built through shared time and mutual respect. Kyle and Maddy’s story is one of those, beginning as graduate students in Opera at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and continuing through a custom jewelry experience at Kimball’s Jewelers.
They met when they entered the same semester of a close-knit voice program. Long rehearsals, performances, and a small, supportive community brought them together naturally. What started as friendship soon became something more.
For Maddy, the connection deepened as she watched how Kyle treated others around him.
“Seeing how kindly he treated people within our cohort, I knew that if he was willing to do that for others, I could only imagine how I would be treated.”
Kyle realized it in a different way.
“When Maddy walks into a room, the atmosphere changes. It feels lighter. It wasn’t until she wasn’t around that I noticed how much I missed it.”

Their relationship carries a playful spirit and a bold sense of confidence, grounded in the way they continually champion one another. Kyle and Maddy celebrate each other’s accomplishments openly, believing that one person’s success belongs to both. When they are not performing together, they enjoy simple moments: browsing shops, listening to audiobooks on long drives, cozy evenings by the fireplace, and hosting friends—often becoming the planners behind memorable gatherings.
Both Kyle and Maddy are also part of the Kimball’s story—not just through the custom jewelry they create together, but through the work they do alongside the team. Kyle works at Kimball’s and comes from a generation of jewelers, carrying years of craftsmanship and knowledge with him. Maddy has supported the Kimball’s team seasonally, helping wherever she is needed. For both of them, jewelry has always felt familiar, approachable, and rooted in connection.
Kyle is quick to point out, custom jewelry design at Kimball’s isn’t reserved for experts.
“Custom design can meet you exactly where you are. Whether you come in with sketches, stones, and a clear vision or just a feeling and a story you want to tell, the process is about collaboration. You don’t need to know the language of jewelry. You just need to know what matters to you.”
When Kyle decided to create a custom ring for Maddy’s January birthday, the choice felt natural. He designed a ring featuring both of their birthstones: garnet, the January birthstone for Maddy, and aquamarine, the March birthstone for himself.
“There’s something special about custom jewelry design. Creating a ring that exists nowhere else allows the story to live on in the piece. When someone deserves something special, you take the time to make it intentional.”

Kyle began by observing what Maddy loved like the shapes she gravitated toward and the details that caught her eye. He sketched ideas and designed around gemstones from his personal collection. The final design only took about four weeks to handcraft.
While Maddy had known a birthday jewelry gift might one day exist, the timing took her completely by surprise. When Kyle gifted her the custom ring on her birthday, she was overwhelmed by its beauty and thoughtfulness and may have even shed a tear (or two).
As they look ahead to 2026, Kyle and Maddy are most excited about what continues to grow between them. They look forward to making more music together, sharing more laughter, creating memories, and spending time side by side at Kimball’s and beyond.
Their ring is proof that custom jewelry at Kimball’s Jewelers doesn’t require expertise. It only requires intention. Whether guided by generations of knowledge or a single idea, the result is a piece created to honor connection and last for years to come.
